On May 31, 2023, Intuit will discontinue certain aspects of QuickBooks Desktop 2020 for Windows. Users will no longer be able to access add-on features such as payroll, online support and online banking starting June 1. Though the product will still function, users will also not receive any critical security updates or technical support. As Inuit continues to move away from QuickBooks Desktop, many business owners are choosing to switch to QuickBooks Online (QBO) to support their accounting needs. For more information regarding discontinued services and all products affected, click here.
If you are still using QuickBooks Desktop as your accounting system, it’s a good time to think about switching to QBO. While still an Intuit product, QBO has a different appearance and feel than Desktop and may take some time for adjustment. However, there are many advantages for business owners to implement QBO, including:
- Affordability: With the new subscription-based pricing for Desktop, QBO will be a more affordable route. There are different versions at different price points, depending on your needs. For pricing options, see here.
- Enhanced Features: QBO offers many apps or add-on services that can help support your accounting system. From payroll to customized reporting, expense management, advanced payable management and more, there are many additional products to help you run your business efficiently and effectively.
- Secure Cloud Solutions: Since QBO is supported on the Cloud, you no longer have to worry about manually backing up files or having a secure server to house your accounting system. In addition, you can access your books and records from wherever you are in real time and on different devices such as your mobile phone or tablet.
- Simple File Sharing: As a small business owner, you will need to share records with accountants or other business advisors. QBO offers users easy and secure file sharing – simply grant users the necessary permission for real-time access to your records.
If you are considering implementing QBO to enhance your accounting function, now is a good time to begin the switch.
